Six Aleut tribes, from the Aleutian Islands and Alaska Peninsula, came together in an effort to find more effective healthcare for their community members. The founders had a vision of a world where family and friends were no longer dying of illnesses that were treatable with good primary and preventive care; through tenacity, resilience, and grit, Eastern Aleutian Tribes (EAT) was formed in 1991.
With over 60 employees and a combination of over 4,000 community members, Eastern Aleutian Tribes is proud of its inception. A non-profit Tribal Health Organization, EAT provides medical, dental, and behavioral health services in Adak, Akutan, Cold Bay, False Pass, King Cove, Nelson Lagoon and Sand Point. Our service area comprises over 100,000 square miles of the most beautiful, remote, and challenging locations in the world.
Unangan culture and traditions are an important part of our methodology. Culture is a combination of a body of knowledge, belief, and behavior—it involves elements including personal identification, thoughts, communication, actions, and values. Understanding, in addition to respecting, the Unangan culture and traditions of our region are instrumental in providing tailored healthcare to meet the needs of our patients.
