Western State Hospital

Facility Details

Western State Hospital is an acute care adult psychiatric facility operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The hospital serves the most western 34 counties in Kentucky. All referrals for admissions come from one of the four Community Mental Health Centers serving in the four regions of Western Kentucky.

The facility is located in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, which is 65 miles north of Nashville, Tennessee. The hospital was originally opened in 1854 and was a long-term care facility for most of its existence. 

Today, Western is an acute care hospital that is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
