Just south on Highway 17 from Plymouth, as you arrive close to Culver, you’ll see the Black Horse Corral where the Culver Military Academy houses their majestic horses. CMA is one of the nation’s most premier college prep schools with students from all over the world. With over 1800 acres to the campus, the classroom isn’t just inside.
Culver is a small lake town that is settled around Lake Maxinkuckee, which is the heart of the town. Here you will find shopping, food, a beach, water sports, boating, swimming and some of the most breathtaking sunrises and sunsets that you’ll ever see.
Located in the southwestern corner of Marshall County, Culver is approximately 45 miles south of South Bend, 90 miles southeast of Chicago, and 125 miles north of Indianapolis.
Michiana is made up of seven counties, including St. Joseph, Marshall, Elkhart, La Porte and Starke in Indiana, and Berrien and Cass in Michigan, with a population of more than 815,000 people. In the center is South Bend, the fourth largest city in Indiana. Located within St. Joseph and Marshall counties are the cities of South Bend, Mishawaka, and Plymouth, which encompass the majority of our SJHS facilities. The entire region offers diversity, a strong economy and a family-friendly environment with plenty to see and do.
Our region includes a variety of quality education opportunities, including both public and private schools from preschool through high school. Those pursuing a higher level of education have several options, including the University of Notre Dame, Indiana University at South Bend, St. Mary's College, Holy Cross College, Ancilla College, Bethel College Indiana Tech and Ivy Tech State College.
