The Kodiak Area Native Association is celebrating over 50 years of providing exceptional patient and family-focused health care and social services to the people of Kodiak Island. KANA’s award-winning medical home model incorporates Behavioral Health, Dental, and Pharmacy services within the primary care setting to facilitate an advanced support system that ensures our patients’ needs are met.
Our Providers travel monthly by small plane to our six rural village clinics to provide services in collaboration with the Community Health Aides and Behavioral Health Aides. KANA also offers Child Services and Youth Prevention programs; Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program; Vocational Rehabilitation; Employment and Training Services; Early Childhood and Infant Learning Program, and a full-service gym.
Kodiak is a well-rounded, all-inclusive community of roughly 14,000 people island-wide. From our rugged mountainside to or our endless ocean, Kodiak offers an abundance of outdoor and family activities, including world-class fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, surfing, kayaking, and hiking just minutes from your door. Kodiak also boasts an artistic side with several galleries and an Arts Council to keep the art appreciator well entertained. For a fun activity, or a night on the town, our swimming pool, ice rink, tennis courts, racquetball courts, bowling alley, movie theater, local brewery, and restaurants offer a variety of activities to choose from.
Kodiak is well diversified in its population and is home to the largest Coast Guard base and a variety of economic industries that fuel the local economy. Kodiak has four public elementary schools, a middle school, and high school as well as two private schools and a strong home-school network. If you’re seeking higher education, Kodiak has an extension campus of University of Alaska, Anchorage. There are two airline carriers for a quick and easy commute to Anchorage, or you have the option of the Alaska Marine Highway System to get you to the mainland. Its sometimes harsh climate is balanced by mild temperatures and unparalleled wilderness splendor that provides Kodiak’s residents with a unique lifestyle in a relaxed island paradise.
