Kern Valley Medical Center

Facility Details

Clinica Sierra Vista is a comprehensive healthcare organization, serving the primary medical, dental and behavioral health needs of about 200,000 souls in Kern, Fresno, and Inyo counties. With the continued support of federal, state and local governments, we have been able to reach out to thousands of new patients, offering comprehensive programs tailored to the needs of those we serve over a vast geographical region in the heartland of California.

We know that health and wellness cannot be narrowly defined, that it encompasses a person's entire life. That's why we are leaders in delivering services to address problems like homelessness, substance use, teen pregnancy and other struggles that can lead to despair and compromise health. We also can say, with a great degree of pride, that we are recognized as a social justice organization, advocating tirelessly on behalf of our patients in a range of areas, not just healthcare. The vulnerable need a voice and we have tried to add ours to the chorus since our founding.

Lake Isabella is the heart of the Kern River Valley, California’s best-kept secret. With many activities, including fishing, hiking, camping, windsurfing, skiing, or just relaxing, the lake itself has much to offer. Don’t miss one of California’s largest wild west celebrations, Whiskey Flat Days, four days of fun for the entire family. The area is in the southern end of the Sierra Nevada range and the lake itself is located in low mountains at an elevation of approximately 2,500 feet.  Also, home of the Isabella Lake Fishing Derby, one of the nations largest trout derby. With the “wild & scenic” Kern River flowing into and out of Isabella Lake, there are amazing sights and great times to be had by all.

A trip to the Kern River Valley is like stepping back in time with working cattle ranches, endless vistas of farmland, livestock grazing, and the evening cool and quiet that can leave you breathless. The night sky lights up with more stars than one can imagine as you leave city life behind. Whatever it is you're looking for in a community, the Kern River Valley has it. If spending time on the water is your choice, put Isabella Lake and the Kern River right on top of your list. Our valley offers whitewater rafting, fishing, sailing, tubing, swimming, kayaking, windsurfing, water skiing, or just viewing the large variety of wildlife species that call the valley and river home. The surrounding area offers much to the land-based visitor with bird watching, horseback riding, shopping, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain climbing, biking, gold panning, wildflower viewing, camping, and photographic possibilities.

The Kern River Valley's most striking attributes are the clear blue skies and clean country air. The Kern River Valley is just three hours from Los Angeles and one hour from Bakersfield and Ridgecrest. The Valley has eleven small communities that surround Isabella Lake and the Kern River: Bodfish, Lake Isabella (formerly Isabella), Wofford Heights, Kernville (new), Riverkern, Canebrake, Onyx, Weldon, Mtn. Mesa, Squirrel Valley, and Southlake. There is an adventure waiting in any of these small towns and the countryside that abounds! In fact, it is one of the largest bodies of water in Southern California and is packed full of activities for the whole family.
